Volunteer Opportunities in the Coastal Bend

Evan B. Mintz, Editor-in-Chief

If you are looking for ways to give back to the community or just ways to fulfill your NHS or IB volunteer requirements, check out the Coastal Bend Volunteer Connection website at http://www.cbvc.org/.  There is a calendar for dates and times volunteers are needed for special events and day to day activities at a variety of nonprofit organizations across the Coastal Bend.  As an added bonus, when using the site, you can sign up online.  Two agencies currently featured on the site that need help year-round include the Coastal Bend Food Bank and the Gulf Coast Humane Society.

No experience is necessary at the Food Bank, where volunteers help inspect, sort and box donations.  According to their agency bio on cbvc.org, “The Coastal Bend Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that solicits and distributes food which might otherwise go to waste or be discarded by manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.”

At the Humane Society, volunteers are needed for “kennel support” which, according to their post on cbvc.org, means keeping the dogs, “clean, fed, and happy.”  A volunteer orientation and safety session is required prior to volunteering.

Other agencies recently featured on the site include the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, Driscoll Children’s Hospital, and Fiesta de la Flor.
