National Tofu Day

National+Tofu+Day

This tasty meat alternative has many uses: as a meat alternative (obviously) for vegans, to make delicious desserts like almond tofu, and an alternative for people who can’t afford meat – which is why it was designed.

The Riveting History

  • 179 BCE: The Han Dynasty creates Tofu as an affordable alternative to people who can’t afford meat.
  • 700 CE: The Japanese adopt tofu and perfect the creation technique.
  • 1975: ‘The Book of Tofu’ is published, introducing tofu to the West and promoting vegetarianism and veganism.
  • 2014: the very first National Tofu Day is celebrated.
