Speech & Debate: Results from Victoria East and UIL Congress Competitions

The Ray Speech and Debate team traveled to Victoria East on November 10, 2018 to compete for eligibility at the annual TFA State tournament. The team also won second place sweepstakes! The results are as follows:

Aamil Farishta: Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, 6th place; reached quarters in Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Anahita Farishta: Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, 1st place; Informative Speaking 2nd place

Kevin Craig: Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, 2nd place; Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 2nd place

Seja Haque: Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 1st place

Sunnie Harkness: Congressional Speaking, 1st place

Adam Mondragon: Supercongress

Arish Bawani: Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, 4th place

Evan Hsiang: Original Oratory, 1st place; Informative Speaking, 1st place

Daniel Gardiner: Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, 4th place

Raina Pineda: Novice Poetry, 2nd place

Zoe Robinson: Prose, 5th place

Daya Butler: Prose, 4th place

Vanessa Zambrano: Humorous Interpretation, 5th place

Natalie Palacios: Dramatic Interpretation, 2nd place

Danella Rodriguez and Natalie Palacios: Duet Improvisation, 6th place

The previous week, there were also three finalists in UIL Congress. We’d like to recognize Genevieve Cox, Carlos Carroll, and Kevin Craig for their achievements! They placed second, third, and fourth respectively. The UIL Congress competition resulted in these three qualifying for competition at state. Congratulations to everyone.
