Across the nation, breast cancer is one of the most prominent diseases faced by women. According to the American Cancer Society, in 2025, “about 316,950 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women” (American Cancer Society, 2025). In the month of October, the Ray Texan Times and the Texan community aim to raise awareness about breast cancer to help the loved ones and friends of those who are courageously fighting for their lives. Throughout this month, stand with us in support of those with breast cancer, survivors, and those who have sadly passed.
Breast cancer awareness month began in 1995, initially as a week-long campaign in October to raise awareness about breast cancer symptoms and struggles. When Evelyn Lauder, a former breast cancer survivor and Estee Lauder executive, partnered with Alexandra Pennsy, a well-known magazine editor, they began the tradition of wearing pink ribbons to stand in solidarity with those fighting breast cancer (BreastCancer.org).
Throughout this month, many organizations hold fundraisers and campaigns to promote breast cancer awareness.
Some of the most prominent ones that you can help contribute to include:
- Bring Your Brave Campaign–A campaign run by the Center for Disease Control that focuses on educating women on the risks and symptoms associated with Breast Cancer.
- Think Before You Pink–An organization dedicated to preventing pinkwashing, where companies use Breast Cancer Awareness Month to sell more products rather than supporting tangible causes. This campaign helps increase transparency in the space and places a focus on health equity for all.
Ray HS also plays a huge role in advocating for breast cancer awareness. This year, our “Pink Out” pep rally, which took place on October 3, 2025, encourages students to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
From wearing a ribbon to donating to the cause, every small action can transform into a huge change. The Texan Times is proud to participate in raising awareness for breast cancer, and we hope our viewers will as well!
