Since House Bill 1418 passed within the state of Texas, the Ray High School bell schedule has received an update, with the most notable change being that another lunch shift has been added to the day, bringing the total to three.
Sources among the staff have stated that the change was made to make it more feasible for administrators to monitor personal communication device (PCD) use during the lunch period. By diving the student body into three groups instead of two and decreasing the staff-to-student ratio, the staff will have a more manageable environment while still giving students the same amount of time to eat.
The timing of your lunch shift depends on your fourth-period class, and that can be determined by looking to the red text below the lunch shift times on the bell schedule. The addition of a third lunch period means that for some students’ fourth period will be interrupted by a 30-minute lunch break.
Fortunately, this adjustment will not have an impact on instructional time. Each class period remains the same length as before, ensuring that the quality of education will remain the same and students won’t lose any time in the classroom.
The pep rally schedule has also been clarified. It will remain largely the same as in previous years, save for the third lunch shift.
Daily announcements will continue to take place at the beginning of third period during Texan Time. These short updates, which will last for about five minutes, include the Pledges of Allegiance along with reminders and important school news.
Please note which lunch you should be attending in advance in order to avoid confusion. Have a great year!
