On Monday evening, the CCISD Board of Trustees recognized Ray High School students for outstanding performances in the Coastal Bend Science Fair, Youth and Government (YAG), and SkillsUSA competitions.
Fifteen RHS students with ten projects were honored for their success at the Coastal Bend Science Fair, held February 14–15 at TAMUCC. Twelve students and eight projects placed first or second, earning a spot at the state-level competition.
“We actually advance quite a few people every year now. But, I do believe this is the most we’ve had … in the past from previous years,” said science teacher Pedro Benavidez.
“I know they did a lot of work — it was a major effort. There was an enormous amount of paperwork that was such a headache. But I’m glad they went through the whole process. I’m very proud of them overall,” Benavidez shared.
The RHS YAG team was also recognized for their state-level competition in both the judicial and legislative branches. YAG, a YMCA civic education program, gives students hands-on experience in government, law, and public policy.
