In week six of the 2025-26 football season, the Ray Texans are set to take on the Gregory-Portland Wildcats. This will be the Texans’ second matchup against the Wildcats after losing to them 34-14 last year in the Wildcats’ first season in our district.
This year, the Texans are looking strong with 2 blowout wins against the Kingsville Brahmas (week 3) and Ingleside Mustangs (week 5), and another strong win in week four against San Antonio McCollum.
The Texan football team is back and looking better than ever. Leading the Texan offense is junior quarterback Tripp Thompson, starting the fifth game strong with a 19-yard rushing touchdown against the Ingleside Mustangs, putting the Texans up 6-0 early in the first quarter. “I felt more comfortable coming into this year,” Thompson said.
After being ejected from the game against San Antonio McCollum in the fourth game and unable to play against Ingleside, senior wide receiver Huzefa Ullah, with 5 touchdowns and 277 receiving yards, will return in next week’s game against GP.
“Coming into districts, I am confident in our team’s ability to continue playing strong football like we have been the past three games,” Ullah said after the 54-0 blowout win by the Texans against Ingleside.
The Texan offense isn’t the only thing Ray’s football has to offer. On the other side of the ball, the defense is being led by senior veteran DB Nicoli Hill Zanoni, who had 3 interceptions and one pick-six against the Kingsville Brahmas.
Looking into the future of this season, this Texan defense is “looking to be the most relentless defense in the coastal bend area,” according to Zanoni. “I think the simplest way to put it is we have some dawgs on defense.”
Coming into Friday’s first district game with a record of 3-2 against the Gregory Portland Wildcats’ 4-1, the Texan football team is looking confident, comfortable, and ready to take on district play.
If the Texans win the game, they will likely move to number one in the district rankings, putting them in a prime position for another division playoff opportunity.
