Many students are grateful to be given the long weekend thanks to this holiday, yet it is easy to forget the profound nature of what we are celebrating. During and after the holiday, let’s all remember the importance of respecting and appreciating the sacrifices of those who have worked so hard to fight racism and inequality. Martin Luther King’s accomplishments were many. His instrumental work in passing civil rights legislation is an inspiration for everyone who fights for justice today. We should all take a moment to appreciate what he has done for us all, and what we can do to honor his memory and the causes of freedom and justice.
