The Speech And Debate Program at Ray High School is totally unparalleled anywhere in the district, with no other school showing the commitment, heart, and Texan spirit which our Ray Texans show every day. Speech and debate is an extremely inclusive program which aids students in their presenting, researching, speaking, and writing skills. The speech side features a multitude of events which are best suited to those interested in theater and performing, with events like humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, poetry, and informative speaking.  You can turn anything you are interested in or passionate about into a successful speech piece! The debate side is better suited to students who enjoy problem solving, public speaking, research, and group discussion. Debate events help students improve their writing, research, and argumentative skills, with a wide range of events for anyone to fit into, regardless of their prior experience or level of comfort. Competing often involves travel, and it allows students to get closer not just with their team members, but also students from all over the district, state, and country. Speech and Debate members are also typically well received by colleges and scholarship programs, with the skills learned in speech and debate being applicable to any career.
